1. Fill out an online application.  Please include complete veterinary information on all of your current pets. We encourage you to fill out an application early in the process, then when a dog that matches your family arrives, the process will be complete. 

We will not adopt if any of the current pets are not neutered/spayed and up to date on all of their shots.  We consider this very important in the care of any animal, and it is one of our few written policies.

We prefer that our homes have fences, but will approve homes without a fence.  If you are interested in a deaf dog, please understand that we generally adopt deaf dogs to home with fences.

We generally adopt only to those families who own their homes, and who do not rent.  We have made very rare exceptions to this policy, but we feel it is in the best interest of the dogs we are responsible for.

2. We will have a volunteer check your references, and complete a home visit.  Our home visit is a very important part of the process.  You get a chance to meet us face to face, and ask any questions you may have. We have an opportunity to get to know your family, and see what kind of dog will make the best match for your family.

3. Get approved! Once your application, references, and home visit are complete, we will begin to look for a match for your family.  We encourage you to keep an eye out on the website, and let us know if you are interested in any of our current dogs.  We have dogs come in quickly all the time, and sometimes they can go straight to homes without being posted on the site. 

HBBR is dedicated to rehoming displaced boxers in Southeastern Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey, Maryland, and Delaware.  We primarily operate in this limited geographic area, because a home visit is required to adopt from our rescue.  We occasionally venture beyond this area if we have a volunteer who can travel to that area, but we cannot extend beyond these general boundaries. 

Each of our adoptive families pays a $300 donation fee per dog.  This fee goes to the costs associated with rescuing dogs.  Often we take on expensive veterinary cases, and dogs requiring long term training and resocialization. Your donation fee goes to to support rescue, and every single dollar goes straight to the dogs. We have no staff, just dedicated volunteers. We own no kennels, and have no overhead.   Your generous donation saves lives everyday, and we could not continue to operate without it.

Sometimes the application process takes a few weeks, sometimes as long as a few months.  If you need a dog that will be good with kids, cats, and dogs, it can often take longer to find you a great match.  It varies widely, and we do the best that we can to accomodate our families in a first come, first served fashion, as long as it meets the best interests of our dogs and our families.
